Miranda Sings Becomes First YouTuber to Appear in Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee’

image

If there is one thing you can take away from Jerry Seinfeld’s most recent episode of “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee”, it’s never ever invite Miranda Sings to coffee. For one, she’ll get lipstick over everything at your table – forks, mugs, car cup holders – and after she’s successfully rolled her eyes at every one of your jokes, she’ll offer her services to help make you be famous. Even if you’re Jerry Seinfeld.

Going into its 5th season, Seinfeld’s digital series “Comedians in Cats Getting Coffee” involves the famous comedian picking up his famous friends, driving to coffee, and chatting about life along the way. Previous big names to call shotgun have been Tina Fey, Sarah Jessica Parker, and as the first YouTuber to appear in the series, Miranda Sings – a character performed by Colleen Bassinger.

Seinfeld first discovered Miranda’s YouTube channel on the recommendation of his daughter who makes up one of her 2.7 million subscribers. For those unaware of the awkward Miranda character, she’s a bit rude, a bit paranoid, and completely delusional. For the record, no, that is not her real personality. You can sleep a little easier tonight knowing that fact.

For fans of Miranda, the episode is validation that Bassinger’s unconventional comedic charm transcends the boundaries of traditional and digital media. Viewers hear Seinfeld’s unfiltered thoughts on Miranda’s lipstick choices, her attempts to teach him how to be “famous,” and in the end, the real reason why Miranda Sings will never live in West Hollywood.

If this is your first time meeting Miranda, she’s an acquired taste. As witnessed in the episode’s comment section, many viewers don’t understand the appeal of including internet comedians in the show and asked for only “traditional” comedians to be asked back. It will be interesting to see Seinfeld’s next move, and in the future, whether more famous internet names are invited on a coffee date.

View the full episode here and if you had your way, who would you recommend Seinfeld invite on the show next?

Carly Lanning is a YouTube Nation curator and recommends Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs join Seinfeld’s list of coffee buddies.
